Old Has-Beens,
                we get better every year
'Is football playing
Along the river shore,
With lads to chase the leather,
Now I stand up no more?'
Ay, the ball is flying,
The lads play heart and soul ...

Has-Been tales: "Into the Breach" by Milton
Morning of a home game, loafing around the frat house listening to Larko. There's time for one more story, or two, before reporting to Taylor Stadium. Maybe the one about Joe Boyle, or the Dearbot fly, or some other denizen of The Valley.
Time moves ahead - fast it seems. Soon it is time to go. We pile into Andy's yellow Plymouth, which we call "The Halftrack." *

There were hundreds, maybe thousands, of these Larkisms. All brought laughter and a feeling of specialness - warmth. These were graciously created by Milton's sister for our 45th, or was it 43rd, get-together. Memories of Lark.

Comment from: milton - yes, my sisters made a set of these for the 1st time on the occasion of our 30th anniversary; we tried to make one for every attendee. those with known nicknames (eg, chaos, blade, wally, etc) got their nickname; the rest of us got sayings (no hope for a dope, underpants music, etc). I ended up with 'fodder'. we had a fri-nite dinner at the old collins restaurant, and the waitresses kept up with our orders by our buttons. at the end of the evening I got a bar bill made out to mr fodder. my sisters made some more buttons 10 yrs later for our 40th. they say its hard work, so don't expect to see any more Reply
